PEDRR: ISDR Partnership for Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction |
The International Strategy for Disaster Reduction - Partnership for Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction (PEDRR) was formed to advance an integrated approach to disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, ecosystem management and livelihoods. The Partnership is an initiative with global reach wherein UN agencies, NGOs and specialist institutes collectively aim to guide, scale-up and better coordinate environmental efforts in pursuit of disaster risk reduction and sustainable development. Download PEDRR brochure. The primary goals of the Partnership are: - To promote and encourage the use of an ecosystems approach (where appropriate) in the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action;
- To guide and assist in the coordination of environmental activities within the ISDR system;
- To promote the integration of disaster risk reduction into the ecosystems approach as applied by the environmental and sustainable development community worldwide.

The Nairobi Work Programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change is a 5 year programme (2005-2010) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Its objective is to assist all Parties, in particular developing countries, including the least developed countries and small island developing States, to: - Improve their understanding and assessment of impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change;
- Make informed decisions on practical adaptation actions and measures to respond to climate change on a sound scientific, technical and socio-economic basis, taking into account current and future climate change and variability.
The programme is an international framework implemented by Parties, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations, the private sector, communities and other stakeholders. ProAct Network is a partner organisation of the Nairobi Work Programme. |
